Sample Magazines and Story + Test of English Reading Level   Leave a comment

Hello, everyone! For this week’s tip of the week, I would like to share some resources that were designed for children, but have free sample issues for adult English Language Learners to learn English by reading enjoyable and highly readable magazines. Each one is dependent upon your reading level in English.

For those of you that read in English at a 6th to 8th grade reading level, there are a few good choices. Read Magazine is my favorite. It has a story of the week and a play as well as a fiction and non-fiction articles. http://www.weeklyreader.com/READ-classroom-magazine-online/

There is also a current events magazine for the same reading level:

And, there is a science magazine: http://www.weeklyreader.com/current-science-magazine/

If you read in English at a 5th to 6th grade reading level, there is a current events magazine: http://www.weeklyreader.com/weekly-reader-news-grade-5-6/

There is also a current events magazine for those of you that read at a 4th grade level in English: http://www.weeklyreader.com/weekly-reader-news-grade-4/

and one for those of you that read at a third grade level in English:

If you look on each page near the bottom right of the picture of the magazine cover, you will see “View Sample Issue.” Click on this to view a sample of the magazine. Sadly, you cannot buy a single subscription to this magazine, it is meant to be bought in groups of 10 per class.

I also found a free sample story about a rock climber for those of you reading at a third grade reading level that is meant to appeal to adults and teens: http://www.highnoonbooks.com/pdfs/adventure_Athletes_book_1.pdf

If you do not know your reading level in English, I have designed a test of reading level in English for my students. Ask me about it during your appointment. I will give you a list of recommended books at your reading level after you take the test.

Enjoy!
